Sarah Greenmore is an ambitious, full-service sex worker at the world famous Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Reno, Nevada. The girl next door “grown up to be a sexual goddess” (her words), her charm and beauty momentarily belie how smart and articulate she is. She’s outspoken about the language surrounding sex work and asserts that words like “prostitute” and “whore” are used to criminalize and dehumanize sex workers as a whole. She’s got a point.
Sarah loves to help make people’s fantasies come true, and her customer review page is full of anecdotes from satisfied customers. The testimonials range from hot, to amusing, to touching. It’s clear Sarah knows her stuff when it comes to sex, sex work, and making people happy. She’s worked as a full-service sex worker in a legal brothel, as an escort, and in porn. She’s a jack-of-all-sex-trades and was kind enough to converse with me and give us all a little glimpse into the life of a legal sex worker. It should be noted that the opinions she states are not representative of Hof’s Moonlite Bunny Ranch.
Dirge: What drew you to sex work? What’s your story?
Sarah Greenmoore: Like all sex workers, I had a need for income. I had seen the HBO show Cathouse many years prior to working there and it was my first real look at sex work and the women who worked there. I was obsessed with it. Always in the back of my mind, “I want to work there one day.” I worked a traditional job and supplemented my income with webcamming, porn, and private appointments.
I decided one day I didn’t want to work my day job anymore, so I ran off and joined the Bunny Ranch. I’ve never looked back! I adore my job, my coworkers, and the freedoms sex work gives me. I run my own business so I can take lots of time off, take the clients I want to see, and dress/look how I’d like!
Could you run through a typical day in the life of a sex worker?
I work five days a week – 12 hours on weekdays and 14 on Fridays and Saturdays. I wake up around 9, masturbate for far too long, head to the gym, then head to the Bunny Ranch. I get ready, then I reply to my client emails and post on message boards and social media. I relax with my coworkers, we watch TV, take naps, masturbate. We greet clients and talk to them about booking appointments. I love to be busy, but it’s also nice to have a small amount of clients each week so I can really give each one all of my attention.
Just to clarify, you don’t live at the Bunny Ranch?
Nope, I live locally, come for my shift and then go home to my cat. There are women who live at the ranch 24/7 for weeks or months at a time but I need my own personal space to unwind.
This may be way too personal, but how does your family react to your occupation?
My family does know about my occupation. They weren’t supportive at first, and wanted me to go back to school or to my old job, where I worked in upscale day spas providing skin treatments. They’ve gotten used to the idea of it and our relationship has gotten better. They see I am happy, can support myself, and I’m safe and in a positive environment.
How do you and the other courtesans stay safe, both from STIs and potentially crazy clients?
We do a genital screening during our booking process where we inspect our clients for any visible signs of STDs. If we see something suspicious we offer different services – hand jobs, massage, strip shows. We still want people to have a good time; we just want everyone safe and healthy too! All the working girls in Nevada are tested weekly for STDs. Condoms are required for all oral, vaginal, and anal sex by law.
As far as clients that want to hurt us, we have an intercom system with a panic button we can push that triggers an automatic 911 call. There are also around 30 other people at the Bunny Ranch at any given time, so if we were to need help it would be just a shout away. We have virtually no problems besides rowdy bachelor parties! Everyone that comes here wants to have a good time with us, and so do we.
What would you advise first time clients to keep in mind? What’s good client etiquette?
For first time clients, I’d suggest looking at our website to seek out girls they are attracted to and chatting back and forth a little bit. Placing a deposit will show you’re serious about coming in. We legally cannot discuss our rates online or in person, but a general rule of thumb is the more you’re willing to spoil us, the longer and wilder our appointment can get! Treat the appointment like a date: show up clean and with a great attitude, and we’ll be sure to show you an incredible time.
What would you like the world to know about sex workers?
I’d like the world to know that sex workers – regardless of the legality of their work status, their background, or the reasons they are in sex work – deserve respect and human rights. Keeping our jobs in the shadows perpetuates violence and negative social stigma about us.
