Elodie “LostFish” is an self-taught digital illustrator based out of France. Her artwork consists of muted, monochromatic colors and delicate doll-like characters that appear simultaneously half-woman and half-child.

Her influences are mostly classical, inspired by the Flemish painters, art of the 19th century, and a strong aesthetic based in fashion and French tastes, as well as a nod to Japanese illustration and fetish culture. Amidst the supple skin and pale pink palette, within the lace, flower petals, and pearls, lies both innocence and desire.

A good deal of her characters reference fairy tales – in fact she published “Alice à travers le miroir” (Alice Through the Looking Glass) in 2011. In this adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s original tale, she revisits the story to illustrate her personal vision of Alice’s world, expressing some messages that are hidden in the text, the darkest sides of her adventure and her encounters.

A quote from the artist: “A character is most beautiful when it is suffering; I like to hide the sadness in the eyes of a smiling character. It creates a kind of tension, something a little disturbing is when what I want to convey.”
