The internet is awash in content. New influencers are spouting up out of the cornfield every day. Everyone and their mom (and in lots of cases, moms with children against their will) has a YouTube channel with videos ranging from what they ate in a day to taking us along as they buy their groceries and clean their houses. But I need something different. I need something fresh, funny, queer, and witchy, preferably with a sardonic puppet sidekick. I need full episodes of Cassie Workman is Witchy AF immediately.
The first clip I saw was of Cassie introducing herself and the show on Instagram several months ago, and from this short excerpt, I was immediately hooked.
A show about black magic (and mythology, demons, etc) hosted by an Australian trans woman who has impeccable taste and a great sense of humor alongside a puppet crow with baby arms named King Grimsquawk who is actually a medieval demon that owns Cassie’s soul? SOLD. SIGN ME UP. GIVE IT TO ME GAY.
Are you convinced yet? No? Perhaps a little video where Cassie explains why there are so many demons in movies will change your mind.
If the Tom Cruise and Jessica Biel jokes don’t make you honk laugh, we can’t be friends.
You still aren’t convinced?? Fine, I’ll try one last time. Here she is talking about Vlad the Impaler, famous bat; I mean, the inspiration behind Dracula (allegedly).
A witchy Australian woman going on about her special interest subjects plus silly puppet and clever jokes is clearly my kryptonite.
My only issue? Etch Film began teasing this show on their Instagram in early June as part of Pride month. Hell yeah. However, it’s now mid-August. They are releasing more short-form videos to their YouTube page as well as their IG, which is great! BUT I NEED THE FULL SHOW NOW. I’m assuming that it will be releasing once it’s “officially” spooky season, aka, probably early September. And that’s great for the average person, but I would inhale this show any time of year.1 Oh shit is my neurodivergence showing? Again?! You betcha, Iris.
This is my public plea to Etch Film to please, PLEASE release this show now, all at once, so I can watch it a thousand and one times before October hits. Also, Cassie, if you’re seeing this? You are the coolest and this is a public notice that you and King Grimsquawk are invited to come hang out anytime you want. I have a John Travolta joke you’d just love.
- It’s always spooky season if you just believe it in your heart, or the space where your heart should be. ↩︎
